Devotchka - Cafe De La Danse 13 April

Saw Devotchka last night and was mightily impressed. I've already featured them in the playlist and written about how good the last album is. I thought it took a little while for the gig to get going, at the start there wasn't much momentum built up. However, once they got going they were fantastic. They played a good amount off their most recent album which I was very pleased with and got a very good reaction from the crowd. The venue itself was small, tickets were available at the door but it was packed once they started. At times, they can reach levels beyond the capabilities of most bands as on 'Along The Way' and 'Undone', in particular. They played for an hour and a half and it flew by. They're not a band that's to everyone's taste and don't conform to usual standards with only one guitar in the band alongside a violin taking centre stage. I got the impression that as good as the show was, they're a band that are going to continue to grow and evolve their live show. I'm looking forward to watching these guys progress. Check out Playlist #7 for one of their songs.

It's great to hear that Devotchka's show was so good. They are coming to the States soon and I am dying to hear their live show supporting 'A Mad and Faithful Telling.'
